“Your deepest presence is in every small contracting and expanding,
the two as beautifully balanced and coordinated
as bird wings.”

Counselling

We all encounter difficulties in life.

Your source of discomfort may be separation or loss, depression, anxiety or troubled relationships. You may have a vague sense of dissatisfaction at mid-life or a desire for a greater sense of meaning.

A Soulful Approach

I approach therapy from a soulful perspective. This means seeing painful experiences or suffering not just as feelings or events to overcome but also as significant in forming our sense of self. With support, we can find wisdom in our experiences. James Hillman describes soul as “the deepening of events into experiences...”  Your troubles and symptoms may be seen as messengers to be listened to and understood. We may ask: What might our symptoms be calling us to notice?

How can we learn to integrate our past and move into our future with an ability to be fully present to the moment? The therapeutic process involves re-visioning what it means to be you, in the now, and that may require delving into the past to gain insight and understanding. It sounds paradoxical, yet in order to really change we need to fully accept ourselves as we are and turn towards our difficulties.

A Depth Approach

Every journey in counselling is unique and I adapt to the individual needs of my clients by drawing on different approaches at different times, using my integrative training. These traditions include Psychosynthesis, Gestalt, Jungian, Psychodynamic, Humanistic and creative therapies. I also include a transpersonal perspective working with what lies beyond individual experience, including cultural and spiritual contexts.

A Relational Approach

I believe the relationship we form is healing and central to the work. I invite the exploration of how we relate not only outside of the therapy room but also inside. Our wellbeing depends on the quality of the relationships that we create, and my focus allows us to explore this dimension. I provide deep, attentive listening, humour and appropriate challenge to help facilitate our connection, encouraging more satisfying relationships with others and with yourself. We’ll work to get down to the roots of things, so that your present situation and patterns can be seen more clearly. I bring warmth and sensitivity and support the development of ideas, insight and perspective, working with you to find your way forward.
